Scarlett Johansson knew that Colin Jost, her husband, was going to be performing some off-color jokes about her on the Christmas SNL episodeâbut she apparently wasnât as entirely prepared as she might have thought. But donât worry, itâs still all in good fun.
Every year, Weekend Update hosts Jost and Michael Che have a tradition of writing jokes for one another to perform, and they arenât allowed to see the jokes in advance. So neither Jost nor Johansson knew ahead of time that he was going to be reading a joke comparing Johanssonâs vagina to a roast beef sandwich, for instance. Jost told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show January 20 that, despite getting a quick preview of what was to come, Johansson was actually âgenuinely so shockedâ when she heard the actual set.
â[SNL team-members] were like, âHey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?ââ Jost said, explaining the heads-up Johansson got before the segment. âShe was like, âSure, whatever, Iâm open to it.ââ But for Jost it was the opposite, he said. âI didnât know where it was going, and then the graphic came up for Arbyâs.â
