Sir Robert McAlpine has appointed a new managing director of transport and two new framework directors as it continues to rejig its executive team.
Days after announcing the sudden departure of chief executive Paul Hamer, the family-owned contractor has named former Keltbray executive Vip Gandhi as its new managing director for transport.
Gandhi was previously the managing director for highways and renewables at Keltbray and a member of the board of trustees at Safer Highways, a trade body for the highways sector that has members including Balfour Beatty, Amey, FM Conway and Galliford Try.
Gandhi has also served as project board director on major transport projects including HS2, the A14 Cambridge, Lower Thames Crossing and the A66 from Penrith to Scotch Corner. He also held senior jobs at Jacobs, including board member for Ringway Jacobs, a highways-focused joint venture between Jacobs and Vinci Construction.
Sir Robert McAlpine has also appointed two new framework directors – Richard Parker and David Polkey – who will be responsible for delivering nuclear work at Sellafield.
Last year Sir Robert McAlpine, which is the UK’s 17th largest contractor by turnover, restructured its business around core sectors – moving away from a regional structure.
Grant Findlay, executive managing director for buildings at Sir Robert McAlpine, told Construction News in August that the company’s new approach will help provide consistency to clients and create efficiencies through the consolidation of technical knowledge in centralised teams.
