Laura Harrierâs 2025 Met Gala look took inspiration from a simple waistcoat and trousersâtwo traditional menswear staplesâand turned them on their head for an ethereal take on the nightâs theme, âSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style.â But the outfitâs origin is just as interesting: Itâs by Gap Studio.
Designed by Gap, Inc., creative director Zac Posen, who accompanied Harrier to the event, the two-piece ensemble makes the most of airy, exaggerated sleeves, an ultracinched waist, and some of the widest-leg pants weâve ever seen. The result is Black dandyism by way of aristocracyâand the actorâs princess-like pose only adds to the effect.
Posen drew inspiration from family photographs of her father and grandfather in their Sunday finery, according to a press release. The eye-catching shape is a creative nod to Black dandyism, the focus of this yearâs exhibition; itâs all about self-expression through tailoring, and this is a shining example. While the raw denim vest nods at workwear, itâs offset by silk satin trousers and a triple-layer pearl necklace. Fresh, radiant makeup by LâOréal Paris finished the look, keeping the focus on those dramatic separates.
Given that the eveningâs dress code was Tailored for You, the entire ensemble was custom-made for Harrierâyou canât buy it at Gap. But you can snag a more wearable version of the outfit right now; peep our finds below.
While you might have been hearing rumblings about wide-leg pants starting to go out of fashionâskinner styles are popping up on the runwayâHarrierâs Met Gala outfit proves that theyâre here to stay. (Several more of our favorite 2025 Met Gala looks, including on Zendaya, Cardi B, and Tracee Ellis Ross, also featured roomy trousers.)
For last yearâs Met Gala, Posen designed DaâVine Joy Randolphâs custom Gap Studio gown, which was sewn from denim and also referenced regal fashion. Thatâs quite a track recordâand unfortunately, we have a bit of a wait before we can see what the brand does for next yearâs festivities.
