One of the best cosigns a brand can get, at least in my mind, is a Free People partnership. I’ve been able to discover and share so many trendy labels I’m newly obsessed with (Alohas, Allina Liu, Selkie, Damson Madder) because they’re stocked at FP. But the retailer’s newest brand is one you’ve almost definitely heard of already: L.L.Bean, which is cooler than ever right now despite being founded over a century ago.
Starting this month, a curated edit of L.L.Bean staples—yes, including icons like the Bean Boot and the Boat and Tote—will be available to shop online and in select Free People stores. The heritage brand has fewer than five retail partners, so this is kind of a big deal. Rather than having to scroll through the L.L.Bean site looking for gems, this launch collects all the cutest, trendiest stuff into one place. To celebrate the launch, Free People also tapped fashion icon Gabriella Karefa-Johnson to style and star in a shoot that shows exactly how to mix and match the brands; it’s a perfect jumping-off point for own spring styling. Case in point: I’d pair these clogs with these socks for the many rainy days ahead.
Thanks to the big boho revival and a renewed interest in heritage workwear like barn jackets and utilitarian boots, L.L.Bean is pretty much at the top of its game right now. While it’s hard to pick a favorite piece, the sturdy, virtually indestructible Boat and Tote is one of my favorite bags on the market, not to mention an incredible beach bag. Better yet, the large size will only set you back $40—no wonder it’s gone viral several times over on TikTok. The initial launch includes 10 easygoing accessories in a variety of classic colorways, plus a retro spring jacket to bring it all together. While there are no exclusives, the brands haven’t ruled out a closer collaboration in the future, and all signs point to a relationship that’ll “evolve beyond spring,” according to one Free People spokesperson.
There’s no telling when the edit will sell out, since it’s stocked with items that are hard to find even on the L.L.Bean site, so hop to it with my favorite pieces below. (I’ve also included a few styling ideas from the rest of Free People’s selection.) And seriously, if you don’t own one of those tote bags yet, trust me when I say it’s better on the other side.
