Glasgow groundworks firm takes stake in repair specialist

Glasgow-based landscape and groundworks firm M Squared has acquired a stake in repairs and maintenance contractor EBS Construction.

The seven-figure investment was announced today and marks the latest stage of M Squared’s growth strategy as it targets £25m in annual turnover by 2027.

The exact investment value or shareholding acquired was not disclosed.

EBS specialises in structural repairs, stonemasonry and building restoration across Scotland, with more than 50 years’ trading history.

Its directors David Sinclair and Brian Ticcioni will remain with the business, working alongside M Squared’s management to expand its presence in the Scottish repair and maintenance sector.

In a statement this morning (7 April), M Squared founder and managing director Kerr McEwan said the deal would bolster the company’s in-house capability ahead of “a significant period of growth expected over the next 12 months”.

A spokesperson for M Squared said the firm is expected to announce another “significant” investment later this year.

The company was founded in 2014 and employed a monthly average of 16 staff in its most recent accounts for the 2023 calendar year.

It had net assets of £1m compared to £655,000 in 2022.

The firm delivers hard and soft landscaping, fencing, groundworks and maintenance for clients across the UK. It supports main contractors and public sector clients on new-build and refurbishment schemes.

EBS recorded net assets of £3m in its most recent accounts for the year ended 1 April 2024, compared to £2.9m the previous year. It employed a monthly average of 17 staff.
