Midgard wins £145m Birmingham towers scheme

Midgard has been appointed to deliver a £145m residential project in Birmingham city centre, where more than £85m in apartments have already been sold off-plan.

The contractor, part of the JRL Group, will construct Edition Birmingham, a two-tower development next to Centenary Square comprising a total of 581 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Phase one is due for completion in 2027, according to JRL Group.

The scheme is being developed by Court Collaboration and Select Property. The taller of the towers, Centenary Tower, will rise to 46 storeys, while the adjacent Park Residence will reach 15 storeys.

Wellness and leisure amenities will span 2,100 square metres and include a sky lounge, a spa, co-working space, and a gym on the 44th floor. A 9,000 square foot podium terrace will feature a cinema screen and barbecue area.

Modular construction methods will be used to accelerate delivery, with floor-to-ceiling vent screens, triple glazing and energy-efficient air-source heat pumps. Apartments will be oriented to maximise sunlight.

Midgard is already completing Court Collaboration’s One Eastside scheme in the city and the 65-storey Consort Place project in London. The contractor said it expects to create 300 jobs on Edition Birmingham, including 60 apprenticeships and work experience placements.

The project has been designed by Weedon Architects, with engineering consultancy provided by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Kevin Keegan, director at JRL Group and Midgard, said the scheme would mark a key step in the redevelopment of Birmingham’s skyline.
