As my fellow journalist Joan Callamezzo once said, let’s speculate wildly. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, visited a tattoo parlor for about an hour during his recent trip to New York City, and literally anything could have happened in that time. Well, not anything, but a few things. Here’s what we know…

Harry stopped by East Side Ink in lower Manhattan on Wednesday, September 25. Videos posted to social media confirm his presence, but People reports that the tattoo shop was mum on details of his visit.
Knowing what I know about tattoos (I have two), this is not enough time for a very large piece. If we’re also including a consultation and a bit of prep time, it’s about long enough to get a simple, small design, like someone’s initials on your arm or a symbol on your chest, likely just black ink. It’s also possible that Harry was there for a consultation about a more intricate design, or for a preliminary session in a multi-step process. But knowing how busy he is, and the fact that there are plenty of tattoo shops in California, closer to where he lives, it’s likely that there was a particular reason he wanted to visit East Side Ink during this one particular hour. Either he got a little something done, or he picked a design for a later date.
